‘Short Stories – Volume Two’ by Neal James

Short Stories – Volume Two

In his second serving of short stories, Neal James dishes up tales of crime, horror and science fiction as well as a fair bit of humour.

Of the twenty-six tales, I can truly say there is something for everyone. As always in any collection of stories, the author takes the opportunity to show off his talent in several different genres and in a variety of styles. While some didn’t quite ignite my imagination, others had me giggling like a schoolboy. From the modern take on historical news reporting in ‘The News at 1066’ to the unexpected outcome of ‘I Am’ and the strange newcomer who sells clocks to the whole neighbourhood (Clock), there’s a great selection to choose from, but my favourite would have to be ‘Engine Trouble’, where the author’s wordplay is witty, clever and hilarious – an absolute delight.

I do like short stories from time to time, Colin. They are easy to read when you are busy.

Yes, it’s a nice change from plunging into a full-length novel.
