My Review (4 stars out of 5)
Amid lots of twists and turns this book reads like a mix of horror, fantasy and paranormal, with the narrative going off in different directions every five minutes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that – but for me it made the plot a little hard to follow at times. The dialogue too, got a bit confusing and I often had to re-read passages to check which character was talking. I also thought the dialogue would benefit from a little editing, as some characters seemed to just blab on and on forever.
Having said that, Ms Stanley’s fast-moving tale never lets the reader’s attention lapse, throwing in new developments just when you think you know what’s happening. The author’s use of language has a nice inventiveness to it, though too much telling and not showing doesn’t do it any favours, but that’s probably me just being picky.
An interesting and thought-provoking tale that will appeal to lovers of horror, murder and enthusiastic dialogue.
