My Review (5 stars out of 5)
Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is faced with a possible serial killer when two women are found dead, but when a suspect comes under scrutiny, it seems the man has the ability to be in two places at the same time. Meanwhile, Grace is thrown a curveball when his missing wife Sandy is sighted in Germany. With his budding new relationship with Cleo well under way, the canny cop has some difficult decisions to make.
This is the third book in the Roy Grace series and the fourth I’ve read by the wonderful Mr James. As always, the factual aspects of how the police work are bang on the nose and give the book a truly realistic feel without ever lapsing into the realm of too much detail. The story is complex with the mystery surrounding the murders growing ever deeper as the evidence mounts up. What I liked about this one is that having seen the TV version of Grace (Dead Simple), reading the book is like watching a TV drama. Building to an exciting denouement, Peter James masterfully pulls all the storylines together leaving me (it has to be said), somewhat breathless.
Looking forward to the next one – Dead Man’s Footsteps.
