This is the first book by Eoghan Egan in what I believe is to be a crime-thriller trilogy. I was drawn to it by an intriguing opening line: ‘Just before afternoon coffee break, the art dealer decided to kill Roberta Lord’. Unsurprisingly, the exploits of the killer are the most interesting aspect of this book, while a myriad of other roles fill in the gaps of what’s happening in the small community where the action takes place. With a number of storylines going on simultaneously I did get a little confused as to who was who, and also wondered where the story was going at times. However, it’s a good read and though the author takes his time wrapping everything up at the end, it was good to see that most of the players get what they deserve.
A great first novel with a deliciously twisted predator at its core.
