A killing and possible suicide in a remote Scottish cottage prompt the Lambeth Group to bring Zoe Tampsin out of retirement. With Lambeth operative Toni Bornadetti missing, Zoe has little to go on as her team begin to track down a terrorist group who threaten the special relationship between Britain and the US. Trouble is, the team are at a disadvantage – unknown to them, there’s a traitor in their midst.
The Belgravia Sanction is book eight in Gordon Bickerstaff’s Lambeth Group Thriller series and the fifth one I’ve read by this author. While it’s part of a series, I’m sure it could be read as a standalone, though I’d recommend starting with the first book to get the most from this writer. As with all the books, there’s a bit of technical jargon in the plot that gives the story a sense of realism, along with a weirdly detailed awareness of how terrorists carry out their work. Zoe of course, is a great action heroine who adds plenty of drama and bad-guy-bashing to the mix, and with a side-helping of political shenanigans, this is one of those novels that makes you wonder how much of it might be inspired by real events. My only gripe is that the changing point of view gets a bit confusing at times, a problem that a good editor should have picked up on.
All in all, another thrilling ride from this talented author.
