A body dredged up from the seabed off the Sussex coast sparks a murder investigation when police discover the corpse is missing several vital organs. When more bodies turn up, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace starts the hunt for a gang of child traffickers, crooked surgeons and a missing teenager.
This is book 5 in the Roy Grace series and begins by setting up several storylines. At more than 660 pages, the paperback is a chunky read, and like all PJ’s books, there’s lots of procedural detail that give it a realistic edge. Although the story took a while to really grab me, the last section – as police race to catch the trafficking gang – is thoroughly entertaining. The on-going theme of Grace’s missing wife also adds to the tension, with a possible sighting while the top tec is on the trail of the gang leader.
Worth noting that the books are now the basis of a major ITV series – Grace – starring John Simm.
