My Review (5 stars out of 5)
(Audiobook)
Lee McKillop – also known as Lee Mack – reveals how being brought up in a pub, taking a job in a holiday camp, and trying to be a jockey, ended up with him earning a living as an actor, writer and comedian.
I’ve been a fan of Lee Mack for years and love his hit British sitcom No Going Out. In this book, Lee talks about lots of things, not all of them relevant, and has a tendency to jump around from one topic to another, interspersing chapters with visits to the psychiatrist. It could be said the book doesn’t delve too deeply into the history of his family (as you’d expect in an autobiography), but he does wax lyrical about the details and difficulties of trying to make a living as a stand-up comic. It isn’t laugh-out-loud funny all the way through, but it gave me enough to snigger about while absorbing the author’s self-deprecatory style.
Entertaining and light-hearted with a bit of serious stuff thrown in for good measure.
