‘The Sol 3 Agenda’ by Brian Kitchen

My Review (4 stars out of 5)

On his way to Cornwall in 1969, John Trevaskis encounters a prehistoric stone which glows with a strange blue light. Finding himself teleported into some sort of alien craft, he encounters a robot. Meanwhile, John isn’t the only person to experience life-changing events. Discovering that Earth is in danger, the heroes try to save the planet before it’s too late.

Having read one of Brain Kitchen’s historical novels, I wanted to see how he’d deal with a different genre. Taking a handful of popular sci-fi tropes, the author weaves a clever tale with a large cast of characters. I’m not a great fan of stories about aliens and spacecrafts, but some of the action takes place on Earth in different decades, which is nice, and the protagonists are sufficiently different from each other to hold my interest throughout. Apart from getting a little confused at times between some of the characters (probably more due to my age than anything else) my only criticism is an overuse of passive phrases which slows down the action.

Interesting tale that’ll please lovers of classic sci-fi.

Hi Colin, I don’t read modern sci fi, it’s too much effort to follow, but I did appreciate your observations about this book.

Thanks Robbie – I know what you mean. I prefer John Wyndham’s sort of sci-fi.
