‘Night Service’ by John F Leonard

My Review (4 stars out of 5)

Luke and Jessica are out on their third date and need to get home. Short of cash, the night bus looks like a sensible choice, but they soon discover that all is not as it seems…

This horror novella is a fairly short read (I finished it in one sitting) and is a book I initially looked at because of the quirky cover. Luke and Jessica plan to head back to her place for a night of passion but being short of cash their only option is to jump on the night bus. The author’s imagination soon ramps up with a host of quirky characters who are also waiting for the bus. There are some nice descriptions, such as, ‘voice like scratched vinyl’ and ‘affluence dripping from her attire’, however, the author’s overuse of very short sentences became a little tiresome and the story did begin to dip a little around the middle. That said, it’s an imaginative and witty read that’ll please fans of the weird and the horrific.

An interesting and entertaining short read.
