‘Penshaw’ by LJ Ross

My Review (5 stars out of 5)

(Audiobook)

A suspicious death in a former mining village, sets Detective Chief Inspector Ryan on a complex trail of decades-old betrayal as links to the past reveal that someone wants long-held secrets to stay hidden. At Northumbria CID, rumours of a rat in the ranks make Ryan’s life difficult and he is forced to start keeping secrets of his own. Meanwhile, Jack Lowerson has got himself into a bit of a pickle – one that could jeopardise his career.

This is the 13th adventure featuring Ryan and his team of Geordie coppers and it’s an intriguing one. From the start we’re served up a generous helping of mystery surrounding a house fire and a possible murder, then there’s the ongoing issue of Lowerson’s on/off relationship with trainee DC Yates and the young cop’s seemingly recurring habit of dropping himself in the brown stuff. The story is gripping from the first page and Ms Ross keeps the tension sizzling away as Ryan’s team hunt down the killer before he or she strikes again.

A cracking good book that shows Ms Ross is at the top of her game.
