The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Following his adventures with Tom Sawyer and the murderous Injun Joe, Huck Finn fakes his own death to escape his alcoholic father and with his slave pal Jim, travels down the Mississippi through the Deep South.
I tried reading this book many years ago but was never able to finish it. Getting my hands on the audio version however, was a great way to have another go. Elijah Wood narrates superbly, providing a wonderful variety of voices and accents and bringing out the humour in the book to great effect. If, like me, you find the sheer length of the novel a bit daunting, this is a perfect way to enjoy it.

Interestingly enough, Colin, I also could not finish this book as a child. I read it last year with Michael and he liked it. I still don’t care for it much but I love Tom Sawyer.

I always found the language of it difficult, but it’s so much easier when someone else is reading it!

Ah, Huckleberry Finn! This is an old story. As children we watched the movie with actor, Mickey Rooney. Sounds like the audio is worth recommending. This was never my favorite book, but I see how the audio could be good. Thanks for the review.

Yes, I know I’d never have got around to reading it again otherwise, and Elijah Woods is particularly good as narrator.

Good to know. I’ll see if I can find other books read by Elijah Woods. Have you read, “The Rosie Project?” Dan O’Grady does a great job narrating the story. It’s a amusing book.

Ok, I think the game changer in that story is the narrator with his Australian accent. He makes the story believable of a genetics professor who has trouble maintaining a relationship with a woman, so he creates a questionnaire he wants them to fill out to see if they are suitable.
