‘Not Dead Yet’ by Peter James

My Review (5 stars out of 5)

When American pop icon Gaia Lafayette is set to star in a movie to be shot in her hometown of Brighton, Roy Grace is put in charge of her security. Meanwhile, a vicious gangster is released from prison and a headless torso is found on a chicken farm. Discovering that the woman he is to protect has been targeted by a stalker who may have already killed one of Gaia’s lookalikes, Grace has enough on his plate without the continuing threat from a particularly irritating journalist…

This is book 8 in the Detective Superintendent Grace series and while it’s a great read, I did feel Mr J  had overdone the backstory bit this time around. Whenever I read a book out of sequence, it’s useful to know what went on before, but to be honest, if I haven’t got the sense to read them in order, that’s down to me and the author shouldn’t have to fill in all the gaps each time with every book in case somebody isn’t reading them in sequence. Anyway, unlike some readers, I didn’t predict the nice little twists in this one, and loved seeing Roy Grace do his action-hero bit as he struggles to save the life of the movie star.

An entertaining read that had me hooked from page one.

Hi Colin, it is great that the twists surprised you. I have guessed the endings of the last three mystery books I’ve read which is a bit irritating for me. I prefer to be wrong.

I prefer not to guess the endings ,but I suppose we all want to be clever enough to work it out 🙂
