This is book four in the Karen Pire series and it’s an engaging read from the first page. Still reeling from the death of her partner, Karen has trouble sleeping. Her midnight walks through the city lead to meeting a group of Syrian refugees who prompt her to investigate ways of making their lives more meaningful. Meanwhile, with the Macaroon on her back about who and what she should be poking her nose into, Karen goes off on a tangent to satisfy her own curiosity. As usual, the plot is complex and left me wondering where it would lead, but with an entertaining and intelligent protagonist, and an exciting denouement, the action had me chomping at the bit from start to finish.

An exciting and entertaining read from the Queen of Scottish Crime.
