‘Love You Dead’ by Peter James

My Review (5 stars out of 5)

Audiobook

Moving to a country cottage with Cleo and their baby son, Roy Grace gets a taste of happiness, but soon something comes along to spoil it. Recently discovered in a hospital, Roy’s missing wife Sandy, hasn’t finished messing with him yet.  Meanwhile, a murderous woman leaves a trail of dead men behind her as she seeks to net a fortune. Unfortunately, a stash of stolen money prompts the owner to take out a contract on her. Can Grace catch her before the hitman does?

This is book 12 in the Roy Grace series and the 13th I’ve read by this author. The first part of the book is taken up with the villains of the piece. We follow a killer as she knocks off a string of lovers/husbands, unaware of the hitman hired to knock her off. Back in Brighton, Roy Grace has the long-running saga of Sandy to deal with when he receives news of her condition, which forces him to tell Cleo the truth. The final section of the book is properly exciting as an undercover cop sets out to trap the Black Widow killer – placing himself in grave danger in the process.

On the downside, Roy Grace only features in about half of the book, but it is nevertheless an entertaining and thrilling tale.
