My Review (4 stars out of 5)
Days before a huge New Year’s party in Edinburgh, a young homeless girl is found dead. The police suspect arson and forensic scientist Dr Rhona MacLeod is called in to investigate links between the death and that of similar ones in Glasgow. Unfortunately, paired up with straight-talking fire investigator Severino MacRae, she finds the work more than a little challenging.
This is the second book in the Rhona Macleod series, and it gets off to a good start. The ongoing friction between Rhona and McRae is appealing, and the development of their relationship is well done. While the story is a good one, it didn’t grab me as much as the first book did and I wasn’t pulled into it as much as I’d have liked. Nevertheless, it’s an entertaining read and promises much for the rest of the series.

Yep, 4* from me too, a few years ago.
