Fisherwoman Isla MacLeod is caught in a net of isolation. Toiling alongside her grandfather, the work doesn’t give her time for relationships and it’s getting her down. Her friend Morag sets Isla up on Highland Hearts dating site, but Isla thinks there isn’t much chance of meeting anyone who fits the bill. Then a possibility pops into her mailbox…
This is the first book in the Tangled Romance series and the first I’ve read by this author. I can’t say I’ve delved into a lot of sapphic romances, but I like to try a variety of genres, and this one has a few things going for it. Easy to read and packed with authentic Scottish dialogue, it has an abundance of hilarity which combine very nicely to make an entertaining and amusing tale. Isla and Paisley are an endearing couple, and while it’s a bit of a slow burn, the quality of the language is what carries it along. The author’s writing style is unusual in that it’s agreeably different to pretty much anything else I’ve read recently, with clever dialogue and witticisms a-plenty.
My only gripe is that the changing tenses are confusing – past to present and back again, for no reason I can see. Aside from that, it’s an engaging and amusing read that’ll appeal to lovers of lesbian fiction and hilarious situations. Also, I’ve already bought book two in the series.
