Nina spends her nights working at a storage facility where all she has to do is keep an eye on the occasional visitor while giving herself time to study for her medical degree. But one night a man appears whose behaviour makes her suspicious…
This is the third book I‘ve read by Gemma Rogers and it gets off to a great start. The heroine, Nina, looks forward to a peaceful night of study but things soon take a sinister turn when she discovers what one of the customers has brought into the storage unit. The story is told mainly from Nina’s point of view, though the author does veer off this path a little (which for me felt unnecessary in terms of the plot). Anyway, as with her other books, Ms Rogers manages to keep the tension simmering away as her protagonist uncovers a murder. There are lots of twists and turns as Nina endeavours to call for help, evade her pursuer, and save her recently ended relationship with her boyfriend.
Although there are thrills along the way, the heroine does seem to miss several opportunities to escape, which makes the book longer than it needs to be. But overall, this is an entertaining and enjoyable thriller.
Author Bio
Gemma Rogers lives in West Sussex with her husband, two daughters and a bouncy French Bulldog called Boycie. Her love of writing began in her early teenage years, inspired by hours spent buried in Point Horror, Richard Laymon and Christopher Pike with the occasional Judy Blume thrown in for good measure. Other passions include movies – horrors especially (who doesn’t love a good scare), country walks, swimming and anything involving cake. The Feud came next in May 2022, then The Neighbour in January 2023 and The Flatmate in June 2023.
